My Bridal Story | Pre-Wedding Shoot

Here I am introducing to you My Bridal Story.

We are living in such uncertain times at the moment. I miss socialising, I miss dressing up and I’m missing my clients most of all.

I had a vision where I wanted to share with you bridal makeup looks that I wore with each of my wedding outfits. I know the beginning stages of wedding planning can seem daunting and choosing your outfit(s) is just one of the many things to think about. So I’ll also share some tips to help you when you’re planning your wedding.

Each outfit I wore was very carefully thought out as I wanted to channel a different and unique look at each event.

I had a Pre-Wedding Shoot, an Engagement, a Mehndi Night, a Civil Ceremony and a Reception.

As we are going through a really difficult time at the moment, I wanted to share what I did and learnt to help you with your wedding journey.

Although weddings are a bit up in the air at the minute, it will still be one of the most important and special days of your life. You’ll want to look and feel your best. Choosing the right wedding makeup combination is a key part of any bride’s big day! Now is a great time to be researching and compiling all your thoughts and ideas down.

I really hope you enjoy what’s coming up and I hope this gives you some ideas to inspire your bridal style.

The Look

I had two outfits for this shoot -  a dress which was evening glam and one which was more of a casual day look. I’m going to show you a look for my evening glam dress. I ensured my makeup complimented both outfits as I was changing in the car! Yep the glamorous fun of pre-wedding shoots! Where do you change!? We were in a park and I didn’t fancy the communal toilets so I covered the windows in my car and changed there! I didn’t buy anything new for this shoot as I wanted to select a  few of my favourites out of my wardrobe.

For a pre-wedding look, I always suggest clients go for something relatively natural but something that is also striking and stands out somewhat. If you’ve got a number of functions happening for your wedding it’s always beneficial to think about having different looks. This is where a makeup artist, like myself, can help you along the way. I take a lot of pride in my work and believe it’s important to think carefully about makeup looks because each bride is unique.

My outfit was sparkly and eye catching enough so I kept the base fresh and the eyes pretty simple with hints of orange and brown hues.  This was a daytime shoot so I didn’t want to look overly OTT.

Keep watching to see how this look was created from start to finish! If you read further I’m going to tell you about my experience of our Pre-Wedding Shoot and the things no-body told me that might be helpful when you have yours!

So what were the things I discovered during and after our pre-shoot!?

I was really excited for this shoot but had I known what I know now I probably would have planned better! Photoshoots always take time and are not something you can rush. I’m far from a pro photographer but I know a lot of factors go into getting that perfect picture -lighting, weather, angles, the list goes on.

We were in Holland Park from 10AM-5PM which is a long time of shooting! We arrived in our first outfit - mine included high heels for both!! We walked around the park on uneven pavement, grass and stones, which meant my legs were super sore the next morning. It felt  as if I had done a workout - my calves were on fire!

So how do I recommend you prepare for your shoot?

I guess it all depends on where the location of your shoot is, but there are definitely a few tips that everyone could use. Firstly, ladies make sure you take flat shoes. Whether you’re doing a city shoot or a nature shoot- whatever it may be, you’re always walking from one area to another to take photos.

Although you’ll probably feel ok to begin with, don’t make the mistake I did! I was exhausted by the end of it and wished I changed my shoes between each location.

Secondly, be patient and enjoy the process of having your pictures taken. For many, it will probably be the first time you’ve taken part in a photoshoot. . I’m usually on the other side of the camera, but this was the first time I experienced what a model's job entails and I must say I have so much respect for them as it is hard work. There were so many times our lovely photographers took an image and then had to adjust our pose/posture just to get the image right! Patience is key - always discuss timings with your photographers so that you get the most out of your time.

I strongly recommend you pack some snacks and drinks! When you’ve got a momentum going and you’re walking around trying to get that perfect image you kind of just want to keep going. We stopped for lunch at the park which was really nice but along the way you always need a little pick me! Well I felt that way for sure!

Finally and most importantly enjoy every moment! Make sure you make your vision clear to your photographers about exactly what type of images you want to achieve. The more information you give your photographer or whichever supplier it may be in the industry about your wedding, the more clarity and understanding they get. This will enable them to deliver the best they can for you.

I had so much fun on our Pre-Wedding shoot and all the aches were worth it in the end. But I thought I’d give you some prep tips so your calves don’t feel like mine did the next day.

Thank you for watching the first part of my story.

Part two of this story will be all about my Engagement.
